The American Recording Academy will announce nominations for the 2008 Grammy Awards in a first-ever, prime time television live concert special set to air December 3 on CBS.

“The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!—Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night” will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and will feature performances from some of American music’s biggest stars.

Nominations will be announced in major categories and will set the stage for the 51st annual Grammy Awards show to be held February 8, 2009.

The clumsily titled special airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday on WBBM-Ch. 2 and will announce nominations in top categories. It’s the first time nominations have been announced in prime time.

Performers include Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, B.B. King and John Mayer, all past Grammy winners. LL Cool J and Taylor Swift will host, with the country-pop Swift possibly up for nominations of her own.
