David Lynch Digs Deep to Develop Digital Drama

without comments

Devilishly deranged director David Lynch is digging deep into the digital realm to develop a dramatically different new series based on his recent book  Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness and Creativity.

Darn few details have been divulged but, damn, I’m digging it already.

David Lynch is developing a Web series based on his most recent book Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness and Creativity (published in December 2006 by Tarcher) for On Networks. Reel Pop has the news and they say that On Networks chief content office Jen Gregono let the goods “slip” during a panel discussion at the OMMA Video conference in Los Angeles, but she didn’t give too many details. It’s not all that surprising that one of the weirdest directors in movies is starting to experiment with wacky ideas online.

BBC Radio Boss Quits Over ‘Manuelgate’ Scandal

without comments

I just can’t believe the scope of the fallout over this…

The controller of BBC Radio 2, Lesley Douglas, has resigned over the prank calls involving presenters Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross.

Ms Douglas said the decision to leave her job was “mine and mine alone”.

The broadcasting head tendered her resignation to BBC director general Mark Thompson this morning.

Thompson met with the BBC Trust for several hours on Thursday to discuss how lewd calls made by Brand and Ross to actor Andrew Sachs came to be aired.

CNN Interviews ‘3D Holograms’ on Election Night

without comments

UPDATE | Nov. 4th -  Wolf Blitzer conducted CNN’s first virtual interviews on Tuesday evening — first, with a hologram in the form of correspondent Jessica Yellin.

Next up was will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, who was holographically  interviewed by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. This had to have been weird for both people involved doesn’t it?

It was, indeed, just like Star Wars. Have you seen them? What did you think? Is this hi-tech future of television news?

Twitter
users, as ever, were the first to respond:

“Help me Obama Kenobi, you’re my only hope!” #CNN

They should have fun with this. They could make her 10 feet tall. Or 5 inches tall. She could sit on Wolf Blitzer’s shoulder and dance.

So CNN can make someone appear in the studio looking like really shitty blue screen, BUT it’s 3D. I welcome our holographic journo future.

CNN just shot in an actual hologram of one of their reporters from Chicago. Technology is amazing! Star Wars here we come.

[Forget] Obama, I should’ve voted for THE HOLOGRAM!

Wow, the CNN projected 3D graphics on their live camera shot is really cool.

CNN’s holograms make me want to throw out my television and give up on technology all together. Is THIS what its all come to

PREVIOUSLY | Nov. 1st
Years ago, you served us in the Election Wars; now I beg you to help us in the struggle against the American Empire. I regret that I am unable to present the Obama’s request to you in person; but our democracy has fallen under attack and I’m afraid our mission to bring Obama to power could fail. I’ve placed information vital to the survival of your campaign into the memory systems of this Barack unit. Your network will know how to retrieve it. You must see this message safely delivered to the American public. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, CNN; you’re our only hope.

This message (or something like it) was delivered via a Leia-like, 3D, holographic projected interview with an Obama campaign strategist during CNN’s US Election coverage on November 4th.

Think of it like this: Wolf Blitzer will be CNN’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and the campaign strategist will be R2D2’s holographic projection of Princess Leia

Wow. And I mean wow. This goes way beyond any of CNN’s latest techie tricks I’ve seen. Way beyond.

Next Tuesday, at CNN’s Election Center in New York, an Obama campaign strategist will be in the studio to comment on the incoming voting results. Only he’ll be… (wait for it) in 3-D! As a hologram!

Instead of the normal flat-screen version of talking heads, the Obama spokesperson’s image will be projected from Chicago and into the New York studio — in a 360 view. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer will essentially be talking to the strategist just like when Princess Leia sent Obi-Wan Kenobi a hologram message that he was her only hope. Only there will be talk about Ohio, rather than Alderaan.

USA Today has the story and they say CNN also plans to conduct similar holographic interviews with McCain representatives in Phoenix.

‘Quantum of Solace’ World Premiere Held in London

without comments

Daniel Craig attended the world premiere of the new 007 film, Quantum of Solace, in London on Wednesday.

Look out world, Bond is back.

Daniel Craig suits up in a tuxedo for the Royal World Premiere of the latest James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, held at the Odeon Leicester Square on Wenesday in London.

But while Daniel Craig will be rolling in accolades for his turn as the British spy, Russian bloggers are less than impressed with model and actress Olga Kurylenko’s decision to portray the latest Bond girl.

With communists constantly losing their political relevance, they seem to be gaining popularity as an inexhaustible source of fun and humour. Model and actress Olga Kurylenko, who plays the lead Bond girl in the latest Bond film “Quantum of Solace” has attracted a rabid response from some Russian bloggers.

“How low you’ve fallen – becoming James Bond’s new lover, you prodigal daughter of suffering Ukraine!” That was the main message of an open letter published on the communist website of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

“You agreed to be the girlfriend of a man who during his long career has killed hundreds of Soviet people, Cubans, Vietnamese, Koreans, Chinese and Nicaraguans,” wrote a blogger, scolding the “traitress”.

Bono Claims US Election Can ‘Relaunch Brand USA’

without comments

Leave it to U2 frontman and the New York Times’ newest op-ed columnist, Bono, to offer another witty quip on global politics — just in time for the US election.

U2 frontman and activist Bono said Wednesday that next week’s presidential election provides a great opportunity to “relaunch Brand USA” amid worldwide scrutiny.

The way the U.S. is perceived — “Brand USA” — also means something, he said. And it’s never been so closely watched, said Bono, who didn’t endorse either candidate for president.

Regardless of who wins, “it’s a great chance to relaunch Brand USA,” he said.
