Sarah Palin Kisses Her Son Goodbye

without comments

Sarah Palin’s 19-year-old son Track has set off for Iraq.

Palin’s newly minted and militant son will drive a Stryker and “serve as security for brigade leaders” and he could be deployed to the 4th most violent province in Iraq.

Track Palin, the 19-year-old son of GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has officially departed for Iraq, according to Fort Wainright spokeswoman Linda Douglass.

Private First Class Palin flew out with several hundred infantrymen on a chartered 747 jet and will stop over in Kuwait with his 4000-man brigade for additional training and administrative processing before the group deploys to Iraq.

Douglass, who could not disclose the exact date Track departed, is not aware if any family members saw Palin off, but said security rules prohibit the public from observing the actual deployment from the Alaska base.

The candidate herself has been in New York recently meeting with United Nations officials and world leaders.

Track, who enlisted Sept. 11, 2007, without telling his parents, receives no preferential treatment in the field. His unit is believed to be headed to Diyala, the fourth most violent of Iraq’s provinces.

He will operate an armored eight-wheeled, 19-ton vehicle called a Stryker and serve as security for brigade leaders.

Nicole Kidman Praises ‘Fertile Waterfalls’

without comments

Nicole Kidman has had a swim in the enchanted, magical waters of Kununurra and credited a waterfall in the region with contributing to her recent pregnancy.

The “fertility waters” of Kununurra, Kidman claims, led to the conception of no less than seven babies during the production of her latest film, Australia.

Nicole Kidman has credited a waterfall with bringing about a flurry of pregnancies – including her own – on the set of one of her films, Australia.

The actress said seven babies had been conceived during production of the film in a small town in Australia’s outback.

“There is something up there in the Kununurra water”, in which she and six other woman swam, she told The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Kidman, 41, gave birth to her daughter, Sunday Rose, in July.

MySpace Music to Launch Thursday

without comments

MySpace began a digital music sales battle with iTunes Thursday when it launched MySpace Music — a “music service formed by the world’s second largest social network and all four of the largest recording companies”.

Although MySpace has yet to provide a stand-alone hardware music device to play the music it sells — such as Apple’s iPods and iPhones — the site will, on balance, be a formidable competitor to Apple’s music retailing business which has, to date, maintained an unchallenged position of dominance.

Could this turn the music industry’s tides?

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch will officially take on Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Thursday.

That’s when MySpace is expected to launch MySpace Music, the music service formed by the world’s second largest social network and all four of the largest recording companies, MySpace executives said Wednesday.

MySpace executives said the EMI Group, which took much longer to join the venture than its three competitors, will make its entire music library available to the venture.

The service represents the most significant challenge to Apple–at least in terms of firepower–in some time. This is the first time that the top labels have all joined in taking a stake in an iTunes competitor.

ReadWriteWeb offered an early glance at the new service (see screenshots here) on Wednesday.

The long awaited MySpace Music service is launching tonight around 9pm PST. (It’s the old site at that link right now.) We just got off the phone with the company for a briefing and we liked what we saw. It’s going to be a very big deal.

Users will be able to assemble playlists from a huge catalog of songs from all four major labels and from independent distributor The Orchard, full length songs are all streamable for free, users will be able to purchase DRM-free MP3s through a close integration with the AmazonMP3 service and developers will have a gradually increasing amount of access to user activity data from the Music section.

RRW’s overall conclusion?

MySpace could be considered the world’s second largest provider of email service behind Hotmail.

Apparently the point is that MySpace is a huge full-service stop where people are already gathering. We buy that and we think MySpace Music will be a strong player.

McCartney Carries ‘Message of Peace’ To Bethlehem

without comments

Sir Paul McCartney stated Wednesday that he’s “carrying a message of peace” to Israelis and Palestinians, as he travelled through Bethlehem, Israel, and the West Bank.

McCartney is set to play a concert in Tel Aviv on Thursday, despite criticism suggesting that “his visit to Israel supports its occupation of the West Bank”.

Paul McCartney said Wednesday he’s carrying a message of peace for Israel and the Palestinians, rejecting criticism of his planned concert in Tel Aviv.

McCartney toured the West Bank town of Bethlehem, visiting the Church of the Nativity, built over the traditional birthplace of Jesus.

The 66-year-old former Beatle ducked into the fourth-century church through its low, narrow entrance, taking pictures with a small camera. He lit two long, tapered white candles in different parts of the church, saying each time that they were “for peace

Kanye West Avoids 50 Cent Face-Off

without comments

Last fall, Kanye West and 50 Cent went head-to-head in a blockbuster album release battle in which 50 Cent stated he would retire from music if his first week of record sales couldn’t match Kanye’s. Well, Kanye won that competition, hands down. And 50 Cent didn’t retire.

So here we are again, a year later, and the two rappers could be back at it again. Who will win this time?

Kanye’s got the blogosphere on lockdown and Fiddy….well…he’s got Vitamin Water and some random G-Unit drama.

Advantage: Yeezy.

Kanye West and 50 Cent are set to repeat their album showdown of 2007, but this time will release their new records one week apart.

The pair went head-to-head last year with the release of West’s ‘Graduation’ and 50’s ‘Curtis’, with Kanye ultimately securing the top spot in the first week of release.

Now both artists will release albums in December, with 50’s dropping on December 9 and West’s on December 16.

Last year’s chart battle was highly publicised, with 50 vowing to quit music if he did not sell more records in the first week of release than Kanye West.

UPDATE: This proposed album sales drama might have to be-rescheduled, as Kanye stated on his blog, Wednesday, that he plans to release his album in November.

50 must be distraught — now he won’t even be able to piggy back on Kanye’s sales.

Advantage: Yeezy.

I CHANGED MY ALBUM TO NOVEMBER SOMETHING CAUSE I FINISHED THE ALBUM AND I FELT LIKE IT.. I WANT YALL TO HEAR IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Lindsay Lohan Confirms That She’s Dating Samantha Ronson

without comments

In more news that we already know: Lindsay Lohan has finally confirmed that she is, as has been widely speculated, in a relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson.

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed what the world has guessed: She’s been dating Samantha Ronson “a very long time.”

The 22-year-old actress casually told the co-host of the syndicated radio program “Loveline” on Monday that she’s been dating the 31-year-old DJ. The pair have appeared in public and been photographed together but have never publicly commented about the extent of their relationship.

“You guys, you and Samantha, have been going out for how long now?” DJ Ted Stryker asked. “Like two years, one year, five months, two months?”

“For a very long time,” Lohan said after laughing.

‘American Psycho’ Headed for Broadway

without comments

American Psycho, the controversial novel by Bret Easton Ellis, that was also made into a movie starring Christian Bale, is now set to become a Broadway play.

Let the creepiness, cynicism, and darkness continue. Could Bale reprise his pre-Dark Knight role as the even darker, pyscopathic anti-hero Patrick Bateman?

Controversial social satire “American Psycho” is headed for Broadway, eight years after the novel became a movie starring Christian Bale, the companies adapting the book to the stage said on Tuesday.

The 1991 book from author Bret Easton Ellis centres on young Wall Street investment banker Patrick Bateman, an obsessively materialistic yuppie who by night commits murders while losing himself in drugs and prostitution.

The Johnson-Roessler Company, The Collective and XYZ Films partnered to acquire, develop and produce the live stage version of the novel, the companies said.

DMX Hospitalized, No Court This Week

without comments

By all accounts, DMX has had a rough year. And it only seems to keep getting worse.

After numerous arrests and extraditions, the rapper has now been hospitalized in Florida and will not be able to attend a scheduled Arizona court appearance set for Wednesday.

The 37-year-old rapper was hospitalized Monday in Florida, meaning so much for tomorrow’s court date in Arizona related to his ongoing animal-cruelty and drug-possession case.

Without disclosing exactly what was ailing DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, attorney Bradford Cohen told Billboard.com that “it was serious enough for him to be brought and taken into a treatment facility.

“He spent the night there last night and he will probably spend tonight there as well,” Cohen said Tuesday. “I don’t think it’s going to be an ongoing thing or a life-threatening situation. He’s going to be alright.”
